Volunteering and Fostering with ESFOA FAQ
Q: What do ESFOA Volunteers do? A: Volunteers often work at adoption events and fundraisers. Some volunteer to be pet foster parents. Other volunteers help with administrative or management duties. Volunteers also help with event planning and web design. We have NO paid employees, everyone at ESFOA is a volunteer.
Q: What is expected of Foster families? A: Those who foster a pet are expected to love and care for the pet as their own. Our foster's
also teach a pet basic manners. We expect you to home the pet inside as part of your family.
We may provide food or you may just feed the foster pets the same food as your own. Often foster families buy the pet food as a donation.
ESFOA provides 24/7 support and we even have a lending library for those volunteers who foster. You will be given a foster handbook full of helpful information as well.
Q: What if a foster pet needs vet care? A: ESFOA pays all costs of vet care for the pets including the pets spay or neuter, vaccinations,worming etc.
The foster manager makes the appointments.
We do ask that you call the foster manager for guidance before taking the pet to the vet and that you transport the pet to and from the veterinary clinic if at all possible.
ESFOA also pays for care for illness or injury. Our primary medical provider is Vintage Plaza vet of Excelsior Springs.
Call the foster coordinator any time day or night of you if the pet is ill or injured!
Q: How long will the foster pet be with us? A: A pet may be in foster care for a day , a week or months. The average stay is 4 to 12 weeks.
A: We ask that you go through the same process snd pay the required fees just as our other adopters, But YES you may adopt. In fact many of us at ESFOA have pets that were once in our foster care program!
