Macy

our first rescue

Excelsior Springs Friends of Animals, also known as ESFOA, was started in January of 2007 by group of people who were determined to save pets at the city animal control shelter.

We agreed  that if we could save even one pet it would make a difference.

Excelsior Springs Friends of Animals was officially incorporated as

a non profit organization in the Spring of 2007.

In June of 2007 we rescued our first pet from the shelter -a young Beagle mix female that we named Macy.  Late that summer we received our 501c3.

Since then we have rescued nearly 350 pets and helped countless others.  While we still assist the local shelter we now take in strays and surrendered pets from residents and from other shelters in Clay, Ray and Jackson County Missouri.

We do not have a physical shelter facility and our rescued pets are housed in with pre-screened and supervised foster homes.  At this time we have no paid employees and our staff is all volunteer.

ESFOA has recently purchased humane education materials for two local schools.  We regularly provide counseling and services to pet owners in need.  We at ESFOA are proud to have a spay / neuter assistance fund for needy pet owners.  ESFOA also participates in the HSUS Spay Day 2010 program.

Our annual Dog Retreat at The Elms fundraiser is a popular event with pets and owners travelling from as far away as Florida to attend.

We welcome new volunteers and foster familes.
